Life International's programs are designed to educate and positively
impact young people. In order to reach these young people, CLI must go
where the students are found. That is why we go to the public schools,
juvenile hall, youth camps, etc. We recognize that much of what young
people believe, do, and say is the result of intentional and
non-intentional adult influence in their lives. Through the Teach
One to Lead One®
program, we equip, energize, and challenge teens to make a difference
in their world regardless of their background. We do this in the
context of healthy relationships between teens and adults.
Teach
One to Lead One® is a national program
focused on building character and leadership in young people. Teach
One to Lead One®
specifically targets students (age 12-18) and introduces to them the
concept of universal principles that govern human life. Public schools
as well as Juvenile Hall teens in California and Georgia are already
benefiting from the Teach One to Lead One®
philosophy.
How
often is the program presented to students and how long will it last?
The
program is designed to last one school year. The Teach One
to Lead One®
material will be presented for two 16-week semesters; this includes the
program kick-off, introduction, graduation and a service project. The
program will be presented to each participating class through weekly
classroom sessions.
How does Teach
One to Lead One® fit into existing curriculum at the school?
The
program can be combined with any subject. Typical classes that easily
fit with the program are: Health, Study Skills, Social Studies, and
English. The program requires one class period per week with the
subject teacher acting as a class monitor who observes, evaluates and
maintains the school's standard of order in the classroom. The subject
teacher is encouraged to use Teach One to Lead One® concepts and
principles in assignments given to the students during the rest of the
week.
How is
the program taught to Juvenile Offenders or Probationers?
The program is presented to juvenile
probationers who are not
incarcerated but who are required to fulfill certain requirements as a
part of their probation. The juvenile court system will provide a
meeting location for the program facilitator and program volunteer
staff to meet with the teens on a weekly basis. The weekly two-hour
evening sessions will be part of a 10-to-16-week program. The program
team will go through police background checks prior to meeting
face-to-face with the teens. It is recommended that a small number of
juvenile probationers be assigned to each session; anywhere from 10 to
14 teens. Although multiple program sessions will be delivered during
the week, teens can only attend their scheduled weekly session rather
than pick and choose a different day and time each week.
